What Causes Rashes And Shortness Of Breath After Taking Malaria Medication?

Hello, my friend and I are in Peru taking malaria medication as we are going to the amazon in a few days. She has taken her first dooxycyline tablet today and and having some symptoms that are recommended to see the doctor (rash and shortness of breath) is there anything we can do to help without seeing a doctor? Thanks

A rash and shortness of breath indicate a possible allergic reaction. The shortness of breath is particularly concerning for a severe allergic reaction. She can take some Benadryl (diphenhydramine) which may help some if it's a minor allergic reaction. However, because of the shortness of breath, it would be safest for her to see a doctor right away, either at an urgent care center or emergency room. A severe allergic reaction can become life threatening very quickly. Hope this answers your query.
