What Causes Rashes And Itching On The Shaft Of The Penis In A Child?
Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here... I was wondering what might be wrong with my 7 year old son he has been itching his shaft area alot lately so I took a look at it and it has some red bumps on it like a rash. Could you help me figure out what it might be and if I need to take him to the doctor and get him some medicane?

It is normal for this age to touch their penis. And sometimes, this in and of itself can cause an irritation. Also, because it's skin, it can get dry and itchy without even touching.
The rash can be minimal, but there is lots of itch. Also, it could be heat rash - if it looks like little whiteheads or small pink dots. For the normal rash - try petroleum jelly a few times/day, cotton underwear and it should resolve in 2-3 days.
Finally, if it doesn't look like typical rashes, if it is bright red, if it is warty in appearance or hassores or blisters - he should be seen to see if medication would help.
