What Causes Rapid Weight Gain?

What's causing this rapid weight gain? In two weeks, I have gained 12 pounds in two weeks. I constantly feel starved, but I am eating every 1-3 hours. I eat mostly organic fruits and veggies with some lean protein. Any time I eat, I include some protein and try to limit the amount of sugary fruits due to blood sugar issues. Also, I constantly crave cashews, walnuts and pistachios. Any ideas?

HI
Thanks for posting your query to Healthcaremagic.

Rapid weight is either due to excess fat accumulation in the body or due to water retention in the body .

We need to differentiate between these two because fat accumulation is a normal response for excess calorie intake and reduced Physical activity but water retention in body indicated some problem in the kidney or liver or heart.

Simple way to differentiate is to check whether you have any swelling of your feet, if yes it points towards Water retention if no then it's fat accumulation.

If it's only fat accumulation then I advise you to get Fasting and Postprandial blood sugars , Serum TSH levels and revert back . Also start doing Aerobic exercise at least 15-20 minutes per day .

If it is water retention you need to get Serum Albumin , Serum Creatinine , 2D Echo test and revert back to me . Also reduce your Salt intake .

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .
