Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

At 18 its unlikely that you have a major problem. Simple instances like lack of sleep, hunger, small physical or emotional stressors can precipitate such events. Furthur evaluation is to be considered if it repeats. HB to rule Low Hemoglobin and TSH for thyroid should be considered as blood test.

For heart EKG to see the rhythm particularly during the episode and latter 2 D echo cardiography to particularly rule out MVP, a common variant which has typically the symptoms you describe.

Keep yourself hydrated. Get good sleep. No coffee, chocolates, alcohol for the time being. Anything that excites the heart should be decreased for the time being.

Watch for GERD, stomach acid causing pain at the back side of your tongue with pungent sour hiccups may also cause the symposium you describe.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
