What Causes Radiating Pain In The Legs Of A Teenager?

My 13 year old son has had a decreased appetite the last week or so and now has burning pain radiating up his legs from the bottom of his feet. He also feels a bit nauseous tonight, but no fever. I gave him some ibuprofen, but I m not sure that it s working. Are we ok to wait to see a doctor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.
The 13 year old child has loss of appetite, nausea, burning sensation in feet that radiates upwards.
It seems that child may be suffering from Vitamin B12 deficiency.
Firstly,it is necessary to do physical examination of child for any sensory abnormalities .
I advice-
-basic haemogram and serum Vitamin B12 levels to assess the severity.
-Tab Albendazole 400mg ,1 tab to be taken only once, for treating any suspected intestinal parasitic infection.
-Based on severityassessed through physical examination and blood tests, the dose of Vit B12 can be precribed(usually 1000microgram tab for 1 day for 4-6 months under physician's prescription).
The duration of treatment will depend on recovery status of clinical symptoms.
-Iron tablet 300mg once a day
-Include 1 boiled egg daily in diet (if non vegetarian),dark green leafy vegetables, dairy products everyday.

All above medications to be taken under physiciciN's supervision.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks and regards.
