What Causes Radiating Pain In Nipples While Suffering From Staph Infection?

I had a staph infection on my nipple 2 weeks ago. I have been experiencing burning pain from my nipple down to my rib to my back. When it s cold and my nipple gets hard I m in a lot more pain. I had an apt with my gyn and he thinks its nerve damage but he s going to a mammogram just incase to see the deep tissue. My question is can nerve damage go from the nipple all the way to your ribs to your back?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The radiating pain in the nipples may be part of nerve irritation or inflammation involving the draining lymph node territory. The remote possibility of associated herpes has also to be ruled out via swab test of skin lesion. Additional guidelines for better recovery:
- Local application of Multan mitti 3 times a day gives excellent soothing
- Wear padded bra with extra soft support
- Avoid tight inner wear which leads to compress nipples
- Avoid sucking of nipple by partner if applicable
- Control of basic infection with antibiotic, anti inflammatory medications

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
