What Causes Pulsating Sensation In Head While On Simvastatin?

Hello, I take high blood pressure medication daily, 10 mg Lisinopril and I also take 20 mg Simvastatin. Simvastitin has made me feel jittery and anxious for the year I ve been on it, so just recently I stopped taking it for a few weeks to see if I felt calmer. I felt better for a week, and this past weekend, the jitters and anxiousness returned, and what I can only describe as hearing my pulse in my head. It comes and goes. This morning, as usual I took Lisinopril, and tonight, I went back to taking Simvastatin. I ve never had such a feeling in my head; it seems to be worse when I m sitting. Also, I ve taken thyroid medication for hyperthyroidism since 2000 and several months ago, my blood tests revealed that I no longer was hypo, but hyper. I was taken off all thyroid medication, and my endocronologist recommended a take a nuclear test for my thyroid. Is this safe? And are there any tests that I can take that aren t so dramatic? I ve had an ultrasound of my thyroid (2 weeks ago) and I will know the results this week. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

All medications have potential side effects that may or may not occur but anxiety and a jittery sensation are not known to be side effects of simvastatin. It is possible that this was related to your thyroid disease.

The testing is safe and it is commonly done but if you remain concerned you should consider discussing your concerns with your doctor.

I hope this helps
