What Causes Pulsating Pain In Left Ear When Standing While Treating Artery Aneurysm?

Hi, I have been treated for a ruptured basilar artery aneurysm. It is coiled and I have a vp shunt in place. I also have aneurysms of my ICA and vertebral artery that my neuro is watching. Just recently I ve developed a pulsation and pain in my left ear only when standing. If I sit or lie down I don t feel it. Could this be aneurysm related? Or just an ear infection that I need to treat?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

As per your query you have severe ear pain which is because of infection of upper respiratory tract infection that has spread to ear through Eustachian tube. It could be due to trigeminal neuralgia, ear wax accumulation, ear fluid accumulation and fungal infection in the ear. Need not to worry. I would suggest you consult an ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. You should go to the otoscopic examination. Maintain complete hygiene. Take antibiotic along with anti-inflammatory medication. Apply warm compresses on the ear. Put ciplox or gatiflox ear drops. avoid touching or pricking it with a sharp object.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
