What Causes Pulling Sensation Near Belly Button Incision After Hysterectomy?

I had a hysterectomy 10 days ago - laparoscopic. Tonight while scooting my chair in at the dinner table I felt a horrible pulling sensation internally to the right of my belly button incision. Now my stomach is sore, and the right side of my stomach area is swollen.

Hello and welcome,

I understand the concern. However the cause is probably not a serious one and is most likely due to one of the sutures getting either loose or a small oozing vessel at the belly button site. Another reason may be infection at the belly button site.

As of now, I suggest that you apply firm pressure on the area and see your doctor as soon as possible or go to the ER if needed. Magsulf dressing, strapping or closing the oozer, or antibiotics will help and will be decided by the doctor after examination.

Do not worry. These are not uncommon issues and heal rapidly. So your surgery will not be affected.

Hope this satisfies your query.
