What Causes Protein In Urine During Pregnancy?

Hi. I am 35 weeks pregnant with my second pregnancy. My blood pressure is low, like 115/60. But I have protein in my urine. I have no infections either. What could be the cause? I had proteinuria last pregnancy also but my bp was very high and I developed preeclampsia and was induced at 38 weeks.

Welcome to healthcaremagic,
Some amount of protein in urine is seen during pregnancy. But high levels of protein in urine (>300 mg/ 24hrs) is seen usually in preeclampsia or renal disease. As you had preeclampsia during the last pregnancy and you are having protein in urine now, it is possible that you may have preeclampsia and your blood pressure needs to be rechecked. My advise to you is to get your blood pressure checked daily for the next 3 to 4 days so that preeclampsia can be looked for. If you blood pressure still remains normal than a renal and general examination and test will be needed for further evaluation.
Hope that answers your question,
Regards, Dr.Imaad.
