What Causes Protein In Urine Despite Treatment?

Hello.. i was diagnosed with Nephrotic syndrome and was on prednosone 60 mg for 6 weeks and my protein levels were back to negative from 4+, so i tapered the pred dose to 40mg for a 2 weeks and then 40 mg alternate day, then i found 1+ protein in my urine and started taking 40mg pred daily from then, its been more than 12 weeks i am on 40mg dosage daily and my protein level is still 1+ , and i am experiencing severe side effects like weight gain, moon face and mood swings. My moving places now and could not fix to a specific doctor, dont know why my protein levels in urine are not back to normal, I am afraid that 1+ protein in my urine is because of 40 mg dose of pred itself, is this possible ? should i decrease my dosage ?? Please help..

Hematologist 's  Response
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
You have nephrotic syndrome which is not responding with steroids.
Corticosteroid is useful in childhood nephrotic syndrome. However in adult it is controversial and may not help in every case. You should go for renal biopsy once to find the exact sub type and cause. It will help to decide treatment. ACE inhibitors, diuretics albumin, low sodium intake all are useful in nephrotic syndrome. Consult nephrologist and take treatment accordingly.
