What Causes Prolonged Periods After Taking Levlen Pill?

My daughter has just started taking levlen birth control pill and I think we started it on the wrong day but she has had her period now for 10 days and usually she has them for 7 at them most. Is this normal because she has started taking the pill. Natasga

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Normally the pill is associated with a decrease in periods not an increase though persons can react differently.

It is possible that the prolonged bleeding may be due to her body getting use to the medication and her cycles may normalize.
If the bleeding is not heavy or she is not experiencing any symptoms related to blood loss, she can consider monitoring.

She should remember to restart the next pack after the normal 7 days placebo time, even if there is bleeding.

I hope this helps
