What Causes Prolonged Delay In Periods After Taking Amoxicillin?
Hi my period is late. It is usually irregular but it has already passed days that it usually comes. I am sexually active but I have been using protection. Last month when I was on my period I took some strong amoxicillin for 6 days due to strep. I wanted to know which is more likely.. Me being pregnant or it just being the medication.

I can understand your concern. You must have had an infection for which you had to do a course of antibiotics. Due to the infection, the body undergoes a spell of acute stress, thus the ovulation is delayed as the body does not let the ovulation happen when you are under too much stress and thus late or absent ovulation causes late or absent menstruation.
In addition, antibiotics change the hormonal level by having effects on various systems of the body. Thus course of high dose of antibiotics can also cause delayed or absent periods. You do not need to be concerned about that as this is body's natural response to infection and antibiotics.
However, if you do not get periods next month, then it is time to consult a gynecologist for finding a reason of the situation. In addition, taking a home pregnancy test is always advisable whenever you miss a period just so the surprises are avoided!
