What Causes Prolonged Bleeding After A D&C Procedure?

I have been having prolonged bleeding lasting 3-4 weeks at a time since having had a D&C in late March. This bleeding is accompanied by outbreaks of shingles. The only time the bleeding stops is 2 weeks into a new birth control. My doctor has run blood tests for hormones and thyroid, ultrasounds, pelvic exams, and pap-smears. All results have come back normal. My OBGYN says it s a weight issue. I am 31 years old, 5 10 and 230 lbs. I have been this weight since the birth of my first child 8 years ago, and have not had any problems prior to the D&C. Is he right that simply losing weight will help, or is there something else that could be causing all this that we are missing?

Hi,
Though weight gain is a likely possibility for the present menstrual disturbance, other factors have to be taken into consideration. The co-appearance of shingles points to the fact that you have lowered immunity. This could be due to general weakness or infection. If all the hormone levels are within normal limits, you may check for endometrial infection. Another possibility is the decreased proportion of the balance your hormones have been striking with your body weight of late. Hope this helps.
