Hallow Dear,

Negative pregnancy test at 9 weeks of delayed period is diagnostic of non-pregnant status. However, you may confirm it again with blood test for Beta hCG. This is a highly specific and sensitive test. If this also confirms that you are not pregnant, you may take hormones for withdrawal bleeding.

Some progestational preparation like Deviry for 5 days will help you. Within 4-7 days after that, you should get withdrawal bleeding. Alternatively you may opt for Oestrogen + Progesterone preparation. Please take these medicines with an advice of your Gynaecologist only. If you do not get withdrawal bleeding, please report to your Gynaecologist for thorough examination and investigations.

All the symptoms you have described are suggesting of pregnancy, no doubt; however if the blood examination also confirms that you are not pregnant, you have to attribute these symptoms to the increased levels of hormones, particularly progesterone due to delayed menses.

If similar pattern repeats, please report to your Gynaecologist.

hi there,
after going through your question, I am off the opinion that
1) late periods and light periods could be a sign of pregnancy.
2) some patients do not get a positive urine pregnancy test in spite of a pregnancy.
3) In case you doubt that you are pregnant, you can get a blood test called serum beta HCG or an ultrasound.
4) my suggestion is that you wait for your next period and if you miss it, you can get a urine pregnancy test repeated. if that is negative, you can go for the blood test.

I hope this was helpful.
Regards,
Dr. Shikha Shah
