What Causes Post Nasal Drip After Sore Throat Infection?

I ve had drainage for a week, sore throat off and on but last night I could see blood spots on the back of my throat. The drainage gunk in the back of my throat is thick feeling but I haven t had a fever. Every January I get this, it turned into pneumonia a few yrs ago and I narrowly escaped that diagnosis year before last. Could it be strep throat or what?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
The postnasal thick expectoration can be tenacious and hence difficult to expel causing bleeding during forceful removal.
This can be due to sinusitis, granular pharyngitis or reaction to allergens superadded with infection.
I would advise you the following in such a situation.
Get an opinion of an ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation and examination.
CT scan of sinuses.
X-ray of the chest and if required CT scan of chest.
Tests of blood.
All these will give a diagnosis and a plan of management which may be an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and decongestant.
