What Causes Positive Drug Test For THC?

I have a client who failed his urine test; re: THC in his chemical test (via oral swab). He says he spent the day with friends who were smoking all day but he did not. #1 Is it possible to have traces in his system from second had marijuana smoke? #2 He uses Symbacort daily. Is there any way that drug could have resulted in a positive drug test for THC? YYYY@YYYY

ok... first, the sensitivity of the test matters slightly. Previous literature has thoroughly come out on the side that second hand marijuana smoke will NOT be detected. The level on the test will be rather important. First it is likely NOT THERE because it is a dipstick test and not the much more accurate GC Mass spec one.
Several things can interfere with the test. but the test can also just misfire on the dipstick one. Alternatively if someone had used a lot of marijuana in the past, the metabolites can pop out here and there long after someone has quit. Hair testing really might be the way to go here. hair.
