What Causes Polyp In Nose?

Hi Dr. Grief, I am a 54 year o female who was diagnosed with a deviated septum with several polyps as well back in the early 90 s. Surgery was recommended at the time but I couldn t afford the time off at the time. About a month ago I began having problem with what I assumed was a polyp near the edge of my nostril. It stays sore and bleeds on and off and will never completely heal. How concerned should I be over this? I have put neosporin on it at times which does relieve it but it still won t go away.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
This is definitely a cause of concern as the normal nasal polyp never bleeds.
It is very important to see that this not a cancer or so hence I would advise you to visit an ENT Surgeon, get the biopsy done, get the MRI / CT scan done and plan for the further treatment as per the findings.
Since the age is advanced it is better to confirm or rule out cancer.

Please stop using anything topically as it changes the character of the polyp.
