What Causes Pins And Needles Sensation In The Leg?

I had a bad seizure 3 years ago and from the attack I broke my tailbone damaging a nerve in my right leg. Since then I have very little feeling in my leg. It feels like pins and needles all the time and most of the time if I pinch any part of my leg from my toes to my upper thigh I cannot feel the pinch. I was told that since nothing else has helped that I can have the nerve SEVERED so that I cannot feel this sensation any longer. Is this true? If so what is involved?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
The problem what you could be encountering with pins and needle sensation in the legs could be due to three reasons:
1. Inadequate blood supply.
2. Vitamin B12, Pantothenic acid and Thiamine (Vitamin B1) deficiency.
3. Calcium deficiency.
Improvement of blood circulation can be established by doing regular exercise such as going for brisk walk.
Vitamin B12, Pantothenic acid and Thiamine (Vitamin B1) deficiency can be overcome by intake of foods rich in Vitamin B12 such as probiotics and supplementing with multivitamin capsules.
Calcium deficiency can be overcome by intake of foods rich in calcium like milk and supplementing calcium in the form of tablets.
Kindly take the above measures and your symptoms should subside gradually.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
