Hi,

Usually minor fluctuations in the length of menstrual cycles can be seen frequently. Menstrual cycle with the length of 21 to 35 days can be considered as normal. And also premenstrual spotting can be seen sometimes due to a withdrawal effect of reproductive hormonal levels.

If your serum beta HCG test was negative, the possibility of pregnancy is almost nil. If you mentioned about urine beta HCG also, the possibility of pregnancy is less only, as it can also give accurate result usually. Generally, per vaginal or per speculum examination will not lead to abortion. So, there is more possibility for delayed period rather than missed abortion.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
