What Causes Phlebitis Under The Rib Cage?

Hi I went to my family doc and have phlebitis under my right rib cage surface of skin 4-5 inch solid vein that travels down. I thought you only get in legs/arms? This seems close to lung should have went to ER instead?? Best advice?? Thank you for your time. Justin

Yes, you are right. Inflammed veins on chest wall are not seen commonly.
It is commonly due to skin infection with virus or bacteria.
So better to consult dermatologist and get done clinical examination of skin to rule out skin infection.
You may need antiviral, antibiotics and anti inflammatory drugs.
No need to visit ER for this.
Consult dermatologist and discuss all these.
