What causes persistent sore throat and cough?

I have had a sore throat and coughing since Monday. I went to the dr Tuesday. They just gave me a steroid shot and a z-pack my temperature has been at 95.4 for the past few days but my face is hot. The doc said I had an upper respiratory infection but it has just gotten worse. They didnt do a strep test or flu test. Just looked at my throat what are your thoughts

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Most places would have taken a look at your throat to see if there are any pustules or to see the degree of enlargement of the tonsils.

If there is a bacterial infection present then the z pak would help though most sorethroats and coughs are due to viral not bacterial infection.

Cough suppressant and decongestant combinations , which are available over the counter, would be helpful as well along with fluids and rest.

I hope this helps
