What Causes Persistent Pain In The Sternum?

Hello. My 20 year old daughter periodically gets a very sharp pain right below her sternum. It usually occurs when she has not eaten for several hours. She notes that it most often occurs at night, and it makes her double over in pain. She says she can feel it in her back. Urinating sometimes makes the pain worse.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

She can have a duodenal ulcer or gastritis problem. It presents with epigastric pain.

I suggest you take rabeprazole like an antacid for one week. Don't take excess spicy foods.

Cooked oatmeal help in the soothing stomach. Avoid stress, excess tea, coffee, smoking like a gastric irritants.

She needs to investigate with urine routine microscopic examination as well to rule out urinary tract infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
