What Causes Persistent Metallic Taste In The Mouth?

I am training for a marathon and ran 12 miles yesterday. After which, everything I ate or drank has had a metallic taste. Even when I am not eating or drinking my mouth has a metallic taste. I am a very healthy 38 year old woman and I have run several marathons. I honestly never remember this ever happening.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have metallic taste in mouth could be due to nasal and sinus disease, upper respiratory infection and head trauma, and it could be due to involvement of glossopharyngeal nerve and olfactory nerve. You need not to worry about it. You should visit general physician once and get a complete hemogram and blood. I would suggest you to consult oral surgeon and neurologist for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan and MRI to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe anti inflammatory drugs and in some cases surgery is also one of the option. You can easily get rid of that by visiting dental surgeon once and cleanliness of oral cavity done. Take supplements rich in iron.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
