What Causes Persistent Lip Infection And Swelling?

I've gone through 5 antibiotics (2 given by I.V.) for a staph infection on the RIGHT side of my face. Something finally worked, and it's 90% cleared up, but the infection on my lips persists, and there is suddenly swelling (very soft, very swollen square inch) under my LEFT eye that shifts a bit every day. Any idea why the lip infection and swelling won't go away?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent lip infection and swelling which are mainly due to allergic reaction or it could be angioedema. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take antihistamine tablets as it will subside the allergy and your symptoms will be resolved immediately. You should take ibuprofen or Tylenol to prevent pain. Drink a lot water. Apply ice cold pack in that swollen area it will subside swelling. Consult your allergy specialist for proper diagnosis . Your allergist may want to conduct skin tests, blood tests , skin-prick test and urine tests to identify the cause and rule causes like angioedema. For now apply cold compresses to affected area.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
