What Causes Persistent Itchy Facial Rash Post Withdrawal Of Prednisone?

My husband is suffering with a very itchy facial rash, accompanied by a deep, phlegm cough, and sores breaking out on back of his legs. This occurred in Feb. and continues. He did have his large intestine removed last Dec. b/c of ulcerative colitis. He has been a prednisone , which helps symptoms. However, now off prednisone, unbearable symptoms come back . He has been seen by his family doctor several times, an allergist, and in Sept. a dermatologist

Hi dear ,

As per your query your husband has skin rashes after withdrawal of prednisone , which he started after intestine removal surgery . Well prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid drug that is used to treat a variety of conditions .The time it takes you to fully withdraw from Prednisone will depend on individual circumstances. In most cases, the withdrawal symptoms should clear up within 3 to 4 weeks after your last dose ,but in your case it is taking way to long . So i would suggest you to consult your surgeon as well as dermatologist for proper examination for confirming that these are withdrawal effects or something else . Doctor may again start its dose and decrease it gradually to zero along with other treatment options . For now give cold compresses to rashes and keep yourself hydrate .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
