Hello, My father is a suffering from CKD and he is on dialysis ( CAPD ) from the last one year. Recently due to some stomach infection, doctor suggest him PANTOCID HP Kit. But he is having continuous hiccups from last couple of days. Can you throw some light on this or suggest a med ?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history about your Father having CKD i.e. chronic kidney disease on dialysis from one year and was suggested Pantop HP Kit but developed continuous hiccoughs from last couple of days. The commonest cause in CKD for hiccoughs is raised urea and/or creatinine. Another causes are liver abscess, any inflammation below the domes of diaphragm, irritation of the phrenic nerve along its pong course from the neck chest and the diaphragm. I would advise him the following: First of all, to get urea and creatinine done and if raised, needs to go for emergency dialysis as this alone can help to control hiccoughs. Also need an X-ray of the chest and neck and ultrasonography of the abdomen to find and treat the cause. '
