What causes persistent head lice despite taking Ivermectin?

I am in the medical profession and I serve a client that has an issue with ongoing lice. Unfortunately, I have caught it as well as my daughter. We have treated with Sklice lotion, and I have taken ivermectin orally twice. I thought I was clear and then found two nits tonight. Does ivermectin sometimes not work? And how do you tell if the nits are alive or dead? Thank you

I have gone through your question and understand your concern. It is always better to go for a second application of sklice lotion, single application is not enough to kill eggs. Single application will not give 100% results, as nits survive the first treatment and leads to treatment failure and re-infestation.
The life cycle of head louse last for about 5 weeks, nits take 2 weeks to hatch so the second application should be 2 weeks apart from the first application for killing the newly hatched lice effectively.
Hope your concern is answered. Thank you.

Dear Dr, I have had intense itching for five months. I saw a dermatologist the first month of itching and she recommended useing Baby Shampoo. Last night, I realized that I had head lice. It has now been treated. My deliema is that I am schelduled for an excisional biopsy in two days of the Right I nguinal node. I have swollen cervical, anterior cervical nodes and shotty axillary nodes (with swelling tenderness and inflamation). I also had a sudden 20lb weight loss in a 2 week period a year and a half ago. My appetite has not returned. I also have occasional night sweats. My question is, Do you think the cervical node swelling is R/T the 5 month lice problem? Can the 5 month lice infestation cause axillary and inguinal node enlargement? Also, do you think I should go through with the excisional biopsy? Any information and direction you can provide would be greatly appreciated. K.

My granddaughter has been dealing with head lice off and on since April. I ve only found the adult lice (6) once, however, I consistently find nits. I have applied otc Nix, Lice free, home solutions, consistently comb outs, washing beddings, pillows, coats, clothing, vacuuming couches etc. Today, after another Lice Free Shampoo hair washing, I found nits again. Not a lot but enough to trouble me as well as my poor granddaughter. I am repeating all the suggested cleaning etc. I am at wits end!!! What else do I do? Is it common to find some nits on our heads? I hope not. This is so stressful and causing us anxiety. Please, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
