What Causes Persistent Dry Itchy Throat?

My throat is and has been sore for the past 4 days. Despite pain relief (paracetamol, ibuprofen and aspirin) and the time to heal the pain appears to worsen. The throats feels dry and itchy right down to the chest area. Although it may feel ticklely occasionally, coughing worsens the pain and I try to refrain from this. Nothing is produced on cough. I can t sleep and just need some advice.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent dry itchy throat which is due to respiratory tract infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper diagnosis. You should do warm saline gargles 3 to 4 times a day. Throat lozenges one every 4 hours is helpful. Apply mist humidifiers in room. Get blood test done to detect level of infection. You should use anti inflammatory painkillers. Drink lukewarm water throughout the day as it can provide relief. Take soft foods to avoid irritation to the throat. You should take steam inhalation.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
