What Causes Persistent Drainage At Back Of The Throat?

Good afternoon! I have persistent drainage down the back of my throat, the roof of my mouth feels funny (kind of burning), my face hurts, my forehead hurts, my ears and teeth hurt. My neck is stiff, my back feels like it is on fire and my chest (upper middle) is burning. Also at the base of my skull where it meets my kneck aches. Since last Saturday 6/18 I have been taking 200 mg a day of doxycycline and also prednisone in a daily reducing amount. For a couple of days I started to feel really good and with plenty of energy but now I am starting to hurt and feel bad again. My doctor just doesn t seem to understand how bad I feel. I also take montelukast for allergies. Nothing sems to help.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of a throat infection or sinus infection, which is resistant to doxycycline. For this reason, I would recommend performing a throat discharge bacterial culture in order to see which antibiotic is the most appropriate and switch to that antibiotic.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
