What Causes Persistent Dizziness After Viral Infection?

I am a 52 year old female, healthy, and active. About 6 weeks ago I had a stomach virus including vomiting. Typical dizziness occurred. Vomiting stopped after first day, dizziness has continued. I have some good days but the last few days have been difficult. I have seen a dr twice, first time he diagnosed a virus, seen this a lot and dizziness may continue for awhile. I went in again yesterday. They cleaned out my ears and suggested I see a neurologist. I have to wait almost 2 weeks for an appointment and would like to get cured sooner if possible. I have no other symptoms, stomach fine, my blood and urine tests were normal, sleeping normal, no headaches, etc. It is difficult to stand for very long. Any suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

That might be caused by damages in your inner ear from acute viral infection you had. This explains why your caring doctor asked to see neurologist. Until you see neurologist, should take Betahistine and vertigo supplement, and should monitor your blood pressure and record the results for reference.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
