Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a persistant cough for over a year. Nonproductive cough, a dry cough. I have had an exray recently, but there doesnt seem to be any indication of anything. Although 6 or 7 years ago my physician at the time says he noticed a couple spots on my lung and we should keep a check on it. What do you think, Doc?
Hello, Thanks for the query. I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
Chronic cough for a year needs detailed evaluation. I suggest you to consult a physician and get the following things done:- (1)- A repeat X-ray is needed to rule out any lung conditions. If the spots still there you might require a CT scan. (2)- Do a sputum examination to rule out tuberculosis. (3)- You can try expectorant cough syrups for relief. (4)- A short course of antibiotics like levofloxacin can be tried to control lung infection. Most often it might be an allergic cough. In that case you might require anti allergic drugs like levocetrezine or monteleukast.
Hope I have answered your query. Regards. Dr.Shinas Hussain
