What Causes Persistent Cough?

I have been coughing for 2 weeks now. Now I live w/ a family whose only biological turnng 5yr old daughter always have some kind of colds. I don t often come home as my job entails me to stayin. But surprises me after getting cured, next thing I knew is that she already have this thing like chronic kind of thing. But of course I also know that their lifestyle to live doesn t really paid much close attention to the girls stead but rather more to their own social satisfaction and keeping. In the course of years, I tried to be extra careful not because of the nature of my work. Until recently, after being absent for a year, joining w/ them overwhelmed me. Forgetting to protect myself, the mother declaring that the daughters case is allergic in nature, I gave in w/ cross spoon feeding during meals w/ the kids utensil. I noticed though that was the start of a cough that blown to a couple of weeks. My question is, if the girl suffer from respiratory allergy of some nature, is it possible that she could also have some bacteria/ virus in her system? My coughing by now is a lot lot better than before. I believe I am on my way to recovery w/ the help of natural means of handling it. Thank you and good health to all.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have persistent cough and have been coughing since 2 weeks which is due to severe upper respiratory tract infection. The infection is probably a strep throat. Although you taking so much of medication and not getting benefitted. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Avoid giving cold beverages. You should take mast cell stabilizers to prevent from infection. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay . Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test or virus culture test. You should get an x ray of the chest. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin at least for 10 days along with mucolytic agents. Go for complete blood count. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods. For now do warm saline rinses , take rest.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
