What Causes Persistent Cough When Diagnosed With Barrett S Esophagus And Acute Gastritis?
Today I had an endoscopy due to severe coughing and wheezing that I believed was due to GERD. When I took Omeprazole, the coughing subsided but when I stopped the medication it invariably came back. The doctor who did the test today diagnosed Barrett s esophagus without dysplasia though he did take some biopsies . He also diagnosed acute gastritis without bleeding but feels that this condition is not responsible for the coughing. I do not understand how these symptoms are not related. I am very confused and do not want to stay on the Omeprazole indefinitely because I have osteoporosis. Do you have any suggestions
Hi, Thanks for your question. I do understand your pain and discomfort. I have seen many cases with similar complaints. Please find my advice below-: 1)Wait for biopsy report first to confirm that it is Barrett's esophagus 2)If it is correct go for surgical treatment .Now lots of less invasive procedures are available and post operative management is very easy for this disorders.
I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me. Wishing you all the best for biopsy report, Thanks,
