What Causes Persistent Cough In Toddlers?

I have 2 toddlers. a 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 year old. Both have had a cough for the last 2 weeks. In the beginning it was a really bad, deep rattly cough and then stuffy/runny noses. They both had slight fevers for the 1st day, which we were able to keep down with Ibuprofen. They seemed to have been able to keep their energy levels the same, not lethargic or anything and now their cough has gotten a lot better but they are still coughing. Do you think I should take them to their ped?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your toddler have symptoms of persistent cough which is due to chronic lung infection or bronchitis. Condition like asthma and seasonal allergy could also be possible. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit pulmonologist once and get it examined. You should go for pulmonary function tests and x-ray chest as well to check exact level of infection. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory , Start treatment only after proper prescription. Drink plenty of water. Take hot milk rich in turmeric as it will boost immunity. You need inhaled bronchodilators and antihistamine drug. You should use mist humidifiers in room. Doctor may also refer you to allergy specialist in asthma type condition .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
