I had a boil on the right outside of my labia minora. It is red in colour. I went to the doctor and she gave me augmentin tablets along with bactroban 15g ointment to take for one week. On applying the ointment the area became very sour. I stopped and used baneocin ointment instead which I got from the drug store. The boil burst and blood came out. I can however now see another boil coming out on another area of my labia minora. What can these symptoms be if I am not sexually active and what so you recommend I use. Thanks in advance for your help. Age: 47 yrs. Height: 163 cms Weight: 140 lbs
In the labia majora on each side, Bartholin's glands are embedded. When these glands get infected, they cause Bartholin's abscess. Usually they are infected by some sexually transmitted infection like Gonorrhoea, Chlamydia, etc. Through out cycle they go on increasing in size and rupture during the menses.
Along with the antibiotics treatment, these abscesses need incision+drainage and marsupialization (suturing the edges of the glands to the surrounding skin) to prevent recurrence of the abscess.
Please report to the Gynaecologist who will make correct diagnosis and will offer you correct treatment.
