What Causes Perineal Pain During Pregnancy?

Hello, I am 25 weeks pregnant and I ve noticed over the past two days that I ve developed a localized painful area in my perineal area. I noticed as I was showering today that where it hurts there is about a half dollar sized lump that is very tender to the touch to the right of my labia between my labia and my buttock. When researching on the internet I commonly come across Bortholin Cysts and Hemorrhoids but the location of what I m dealing with doesn t seem to fit either of those categories. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concerns.

Based upon your history the swelling you are having might be an abscess which needs antibiotic treatment and if it is very big it needs incision and drainage. But most common swelling in that area will be due to bartholin cyst just make sure it is not that and if it is bartholin also the treatment is same as abscess.
Hope this answers your query.

Regards,
Dr.Alekhya.
