Hello Maria!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern. It is really disturbing, experiencing those palpitations time after time.

The best thing to do is first, to rule out any possible etiological factor that may trigger palpitations.

A cardiac check up would be necessary; a physical exam coupled with a resting ECG, and a cardiac ultrasound are helpful to exclude any obvious cardiac structural and rhythm disorders.

If any suspicions for cardiac arrhythmia is raised, an ambulatory ECG monitoring would be needed.

Some blood tests, such as complete blood count to exclude anemia, thyroid hormone blood levels to exclude thyroid dysfunction, etc would be necessary to explain palpitations.

If nothing is revealed by the above, then anxiety implication should be ruled out.

A properly defined etiology would help in leading the right treatment.

Hope to have been helpful to you. Greetings! dr. Iliri
