What Causes Palpitations And Elevated Heart Rate?

I ve had heart palpitations and an elevated heart rate for over a year now also accompanied by upper and lower back pain. My cardiologist said it s benign after doing holter monitor/ekg/heart ultrasound but it terrifies me that I will have a heart attack. Could this be caused by pinched nerves or herniated discs in spine? I m a 45 yr old female and am very overweight also which I am working on. I ve lost 40 lbs so far. My Dr never really answers me when I ask if this could be caused by spinal issues. He has me on a beta blocker but the palpitations continue.Thank you for any advice you could give me.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for your question. I do understand your pain and discomfort. I have seen many cases with similar complaints. Please find my advice below-:
1)First let us discuss about palpitations,It is irregular heart beat and it happens due to many pathological causes.Check your vital signs like Blood pressure,Respiratory rate, pulse rate,Temperatures.check your pulse rate per 60 seconds,if beats is greater than 100 it is called as tachycardia and if it is less than 60 bpm it is called bradycardia. so to do an ECG test to ruled out any heart problems.
2)Do check your hemoglobin to ruled out anemia if low correct by oral or Injections
3)Do Fasting blood test and TSH test to ruled out endocrine disorders.
4)please check your period history to ruled out menopause .please check yourself whether you are feeling such symptoms or not.irregular periods, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, night sweets, sleep problems, mood changes, weight gain, dry skin, thinning hairs, loss of breast fullness.so to cofirm this one do a test FSH and estrogen of blood during menopause FSH levels increase and estrogen level decreases.treatment for menopause based on hormone therapy, vaginal dryness,low-dose anti depressants, seizures medications like gabapentin, medications to reduce bone loss like calcium regularly.
5)lastly you want to know about your back pain Do a pelvic ultrasound exam and MRI spine plus do a neuro physical exam which will clear your mind regarding causes of back pain.
Check and discuss what i told and discuss with your local doctor regarding this problem in detail and any doubt let me know.
I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me.
Wishing you all the best.
Thanks,
