What causes pale brown circle on back and brown mark under breast?

Hi, I have had two pale brown circles on back for a about 2 years (look like birth marks - pale brown, flat, not itchy etc) but in last few months more have appeared on back, much larger. I now have 12 on my back and a large brown mark under my breast which is about 6cm in length.

Hello,

Pale brown circles on the back that are flat, brown or black, non itchy are called liver spots or age spots. They are not caused due to any liver disease but are a result of cumulative damage to the skin by sunlight. They appear on the skin after prolonged sun exposure. They are harmless, but some people wish to remove them for cosmetic reasons. Vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B6 and biotin can boost collagen production. You can apply turmeric, buttermilk or yogurt directly to the skin to fight age spots.

You can visit a dermatologist and get clinically examined. You may be recommended skin lightening creams, dermabrasion, cryotherapy, laser treatment, etc. Large brown mark under the breast is due to Acanthosis nigricans, loose weight if obese, control your blood glucose level, do not scratch or touch. Avoid using scented perfumes or chemical cosmetic. Take regular bath, clean the area with anti bacterial soap and warm water.

You can apply a thin layer of tretinoin ointment on the affected area. Dermabrasion and laser therapy is helpful. However, your treating doctor will tell you to do few tests and investigations as well as skin biopsy to rule out any malignant skin disease. Get it done so that treatment can be started at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
