I feel an elevated spot on my toungue, way in the back, right in the center.
I can just bearely see it with a tongue depresser and it is white and quite large. No pain, just the annoying sensation of something is there. 3 days duration. seems to be getting larger.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query painless elevated white spot on could be because of enlarged filliform papillae of tongue. These papillae occur normally in tongue but some times due to hormones, stress and certain types of food these get enlarged and start giving whitish appearance spot.

You maintain basic oral hygiene by brushing and flossing daily. Gently scrap tongue with tongue cleaner to remove debris attached to that area. Drink plenty of water to stay rehydrated. Keep applying petroleum jelly on that to avoid itching.

I would suggest you to visit oral pathologist once if your symptoms still persists. Get biopsy done by taking scrapings from tongue to rule out any oral malignancy or thrush.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
