What Causes Painless And Hard Bruised Vein Post Blood Donation?

I donated blood about a week ago. My blood stopped after awhile so they tried to get it going again by twisting the needle then pushing the needle in farther, I was excepting bruising but not pain throughout my arm, also when I touch the vein that was drawn from its hard. What s the cause? Or is this normal?

hi. I understand that you have acquired a problem through such a noble act of blood donation.

painful swelling in the veins after blood donation is indicative of hematoma. hematoma is caused when blood comes out of the veins which is because of the repeated trauma that you mentioned.

the good news is that hematomas resolve on their own completely without any sequelae. so you can leave it alone to heal. if it's too painful I would suggest you take painkillers.

you can see your local doctor if the hematoma doesn't resolve within 2 weeks.

hope this answers your question. thanks.
