What Causes Painful Welts On Leg After Taking Ciprofloxacin?

Hi, I recently had camphylobacter jejuni and was treated with ciprofloxacin - took the pills 2x daily for 3 days (this finished Friday November 20). Saturday I noticed small welts on my right shin that were sensitive like bruises. More are continually showing up on my legs and they are painful. I ve read that this is a rare side effect of the medication I was put on, but I am wondering if this is something that just runs it s course on its own or if I should see a doctor for treatment of this side effect?

Ciprofloxacin can induce a rash which is known as fixed drug reaction .Fixed drug reaction presents with a red colour rash which can be painful. You need to consult a dermatologist immediately to confirm the diagnosis. If it turns out to be a fixed drug reaction than you might have to avoid Ciprofloxacin in the future as well.Regards.
