What Causes Painful Urination With Cloudy Urine In An Elderly Woman?
I m 62, female. If I don t drink fluids throughout the day I have pain during urination and it is cloudy. After drinking lots of water or cranberry juice (which includes various other juices and has a high sugar level - I m not diabetic but like to limit excess sugars) after a few hours the cloudiness and pain leave and all is clear . This has been going on for about 3 months. Never needed to drink so much liquid before. Since the pain and cloudiness is intermittent I m not sure if it is a problem or not.
* As per my clinical experience, the recurrent need of repeated cranberry consumption indicate a possible alteration in the filtering capacity of the kidney via some issues, which can be glomerulopathy chronic recurrent UTI or else.
* In my clinic, I do recommend urine culture, the total count of the blood, fasting blood sugar and urine culture to diagnose the underlying cause and manage in accordance to that only so that any possible damage to kidneys can be prevented at early stages only.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
