What Causes Painful Patch On The Thigh And Tingling Sensation On The Knee?

i have had numb patch on outer right thigh for a couple of yrs, this has progress and has now been painful to touch for 1yr, also right side of foot, now left knee is tingly and numb, i have pain right side of lower back, for months now it feels as if i have had boiling water chucked over me, everytime i shower and my skin, from waist to toes, touches the cold surface of the tiles it is like fire touching ice, to dribble oil on my skin feels like boiling water, also i have suffered with very painful pins and needles in my arms, especially at night, i can t carry anything as my hands get pins and needles and the nerves in my hands seem to crunch, this is worse on my left side (the opposite side to the leg) I have been to the doctors a few times, they just tell me to loose weight, i have lost 1 1/2 stone in the last couple of months, but no releif, i am overweight, 5ft 3 and 16st, but i think there is more to it, i am getting very depressed, sleeping and intimacy are a problem, due to pain, also i did a lot of heavy work at the weekend, and for the next couple of day the pain in my lower back was much worse and i kept having spasms like trapped nerves, i so hope you can give my some advise as my doctors are very dismissive, and to be honest i never see the same doctor twice, which is frustrating, thanks, Sherri

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm sorry that you have been going through this without much help.

Based on your symptoms, I would like to primarily rule out nerve impingement and disc disease.

I recommend :
- a neurologist /neurosurgeon consult
-MRI of the spine to check for affected discs, spondylosis, nerve impingement and damage.
-blood tests (complete blood count, Thyroid profile, lipid profile, kidney & liver function tests)

Although being overweight can contribute to or worsen the pressure on the nerves, the problem is real and needs to be addressed asap.
You should not have to suffer in pain.

Please seek or demand (if it comes to that) help

Do not lift anything heavy or make sudden movements like bending or turning around.

Avoid jerky movements to the spine. Don't sit or stand for too long. Mild to moderate exercise once you start to feel better.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Wish you good health and that you feel better soon
