General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

There are 2 main causes why a woman of your age (57) bleeds and feels pain during intercourse:
- dry and hard intercourse
- vaginal infection

I believe the cream you bought was clotrimazole and it is used with applicator. It will help with vaginal infection of fungal origin.

If still not helping, further consultation with gynecologist is highly recommended to determine the right diagnosis.

At your age, due to hormonal changes, there are changes in vaginal morphology (atrophy) and not reaching the orgasm in time. This will lead to dryness at the time of penetration, which is clinically associated with pain and little bleeding.

You can talk to your partner to have more patience until both of you reach orgasm at the same time, so you'll be completely prepared for the penetration without pain and bleeding.

Regular pap smear testing is also recommended.

All the best.
