What Causes Painful Intercourse?
I am 60 years old and have experienced, within the past 6 months to a year, pain during intercourse. I m not sure what kind of doctor I should see, whether it be a gynecologist or some kind of specialist. We have been married for nearly 42 years and sex has always been a frustrating area for both of us. But now, I m dealing with physical pain and not just lack of desire. My husband is to the point where he is afraid to touch me. Just a note, I was sexually abused by my oldest brother when I was around 5-7 years old, so I know there are some psychological issues that are interfering with my husband and my sexual relationship. I have been working with professionals for years getting past the abuse and physically loving and enjoying sex with my husband, but now it is physical and not just mental. My health insurance is United Health Care. I would prefer a highly qualified female doctor and have their office on the west side of the valley (Goodyear, Avondale, Litchfield). Is there someone there that can guide me as to what kind of physician to see that is accepted by my insurance and considered highly qualified? I didn t realize there was a FEE involved in chatting. I do accept the concern of yours, but the usual cause of painful sex at your age, is mostly the dryness of the vaginal area which happens to be due to estrogen hormone deficiency post stoppage of the menstrual cycles.Apart from the psychological injury in your past, the most important thing is the one you have to check with the physician.The better choice is a gynecologist to deal with your problems.Thank You
