Hello,

Judging from your description I believe the most likely cause to be a tension-type headache. It is the most common type of primary headache (primary meaning for without an identifiable cause).

It is commonly associated with increased scalp tenderness (the bruised feeling).

Usually, over the counter, anti-inflammatory medication like Advil relieves the symptoms. Relaxation exercises also help as stress often triggers or exacerbates symptoms.

If they are a very frequent preventive medication with amitriptyline may be considered.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olsi Taka, Neurologist
