What Causes Painful Bartholin Cyst?

Is it common for a woman of 66 years old that is not sexually active to get a Bartholin cyst? I have tried the hot baths but it seems to be getting worse and now I am experiencing shooting pains. I have an apt with an OB/gyn in the morning. I have not had one of these in over 35 years. When I was young, the one experience ruptured on its own. It is very painful. Thanks!

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
No, bartholin cyst is not common in old age, sexually inactive patient.
In my opinion, you should definitely consult gynecologist and get done clinical examination of that cyst.
In old age, malignant lesions are very common.
So get done clinical examination and if needed biopsy from that cyst to rule out malignancy.
Biopsy will also tell if it is infection.
So consult gynecologist and discuss all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
