What Causes Pain While Coughing In A Smoker?

I am a white male, 52, 6 1 , 245 pounds. Smoker x30 years @ 2 packs per day. Trying to quit. I have recently developed a sharp lung pain when I cough or sneeze. I have had an issue with congestion my whole life due to bad sinus and allergy issues. Started on meds for sinuses at age 9. This year congestion has been very bad x 6 months. I have been placed on Singlair med and have the congestion in check. I have had numerous chest x-rays, last one 3 years ago, but am current on a 2 month wait to see Pulmonary Doctor for the results of a recent one. I had recent breathing tests which were normal, showing my blood O2 at 98% during all tests and at rest. Also recent had a full cardiac workup and all show great. Blood work and general health are all excellent. What can cause this type of lung pain? John

Well come to HCM
Such cough is called smoker's cough this could developed the chronic condition of obstruction lung and this is better called (COPD) Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease" try to quit the smoking before its too late, what ever the symptoms that you have could be due to this only, hope this information helps, take care.
